I’m back.. again..

Posted by Aric on May 31st, 2004

Yeah.. so I just got back to the Hellhole.. not much to comment about that aside from it sucks to be back.. when I walked into my apartment, the INDOOR temperature was 86 degrees F.. the outdoor temperature was only like 84.. when its in the 80s in So Cal, I consider it pretty warm.. turn on the A/C.. blast the A/C in the car at 65 degrees.. not only is it hot here though.. its also really humid.. this morning, after I woke up at 4:30am and took a shower.. I walked out into the living room area where it was a toasty 82 degrees and humid.. in the effort it took to reach down, pick up the A/C remote and turn it on, I was starting to sweat ..

So anyway.. I was watching CNN this morning.. I noticed something.. since showing images of burning bodies, decapitations or mutilations is considered grotesque and inappropriate for television, they show images of burning vehicles.. if something bad happens, there’s always a shot of a burning vehicle.. “22 people were killed today” [pan to shot of burning 1974 Datsun B210].. maybe these terrorists are also beginning to realize this.. sure, they can blow up a Marine barracks.. but nothing guaranties CNN television coverage like a burning vehicle.. which would explain the presence of a burning vehicle at every terrorist strike.. hmm.. its a bit of a “chicken or the egg” problem, huh?

Its been a while since I..

Mentioned how bad Abeam Consulting sucks.. I really don’t understand how a company, much less a consulting firm, can call themselves a global company while ignoring one of the fundamental differences between different countries.. culture. Seriously, I could care less if these consultants were grown in Taiwan.. if we, the paying customer, express to them our displeasure and discontent with their methods, they should change.. one time, our boss told the consultant project manager, “you know, your attitude is really bad.. and quite honestly, I don’t see how you are going to be able to further your career because of it”.. to which the dickhead replied, “well, that’s too bad, because that is how I am and I cannot change”.. ok, that’s all.. stay tuned for more stories of how Abeam Consulting sucks..

On a side note, I’m going home today! yah!

Man.. its been a long time huh?

I haven’t posted in a while.. things have been busy at work and on weekends, I started watching obscene amounts of TV.. including most of 24 Season 2.. I never really got into 24.. and I think what really helped me get into it this time was that here, on Channel 57, they showed 3 episodes on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.. but just watching one episode would’ve driven me crazy.. to think, you had to wait one week just to see another “hours worth” of 24.. anyhow, I bought both season 1 and 2 on DVD so I’ll be watching that later..

I’m going home on Wednesday.. it still seems so distant.. I’ve been here for about 3 months straight.. which doesnt seem like a long time, but for me, it seemed like years.. my friend brought to my attention that I’ve been here for about 7.5 months now.. hard to believe.. I didnt think I’d even make it this far.. I think the only thing about being in Taiwan that makes it “better than it really is” is the fact that we’re constantly working or at work.. so by the time we get home, I’m up for about 2 hours, checking email, surfing the internet, whatever.. and then its off to bed.. wake up at 6:30am, shower, make a phone call back home, then head off for work.. repeat 5 times, sometimes 6.. on the weekends, I end up watching all kinds of movies over and over.. lots of Steven Segal movies.. I never watch them though.. I’m more of a Jean Claude Van Damage fan myself.. I’ve seen The Rock like 3 times in the past two weeks.. I realized I like Nicolas Cage.. oh, I also saw Face Off, which I remembered liking.. but when I watched it the second time, it wasn’t so great.. I think its beacuse of John Travolta.. he’s cool n’ all.. but not as a good guy.. even though he’s a bad guy for most of the movie, just knowing he’s supposed to be a good guy kind of ruins it.. Nick Cage was also good in Con Air.. Hillbilly.. that was cool.. anyhow, you get the picture..
