I was reading local Southern California news this evening (killing time before our shuttle arrives) and I saw this article:
Boy Not Allowed To Bring Porn Star To Prom
Apparently, he won a date with a porn star on the Howard Stern Show and now his parents AND the school won’t let him bring her to his prom because it violates “the school’s prom guidelines”.. what guidelines? Do they have a rule that says “no student shall bring a porn star to the prom”? Sure, she’s a porn star.. but I mean, how can you limit someone from attending a prom due to their profession? Whatever.. anyhow, NBC4.TV always has these little polls next to “interesting” or controversial articles.. so the question (and results) that went along with this article was:

Since I have 2 daughters, my immediate response was “hell no I wouldn’t let my daughters go to the damn prom with a stinkin’ porn star.. wtf..”.. but then, if I had a son.. and I think most men will agree.. it would be cool to be able to say that your manly son went to his prom with a porn star.. of course, that may not be the case in “real life” if I had son.. but there’s definitely a “cool factor”.. and judging by the results.. I’d bet that 5,056 that said they would let a son go but not a daughter are probably 95% manly men and 5% manly women.. the 201 that said they would let their daughter go but not their son are definitely 100% hippie mothers because no dad would let his daughter go out with any guy much less a damn porn star.. the 4,663 that said they would let their son or daughter go are all just plain hippies or just didn’t read the answers right and picked the wrong one.. and the 19,130 that said they wouldn’t let any of their kids go with a porn star are just your typical conservative and/or hard core church going type..
Personally, when my daughters start dating, me and my friend have already made a deal that we’ll spy on each other’s kid (yeah, that’s messed up.. but so what?).. that, plus with all that “Lo Jack for Kids” stuff thats being developed.. throw in the fear factor (cleaning the shotgun and assault rifles when the boy comes to pick up my daughter) and I don’t think I have to worry too much..
