Old School: My 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II FC3S

I found a stash of old pictures while cleaning out my home office.. that, in turn, triggered some memories of having pics of my old cars in some album in my Shutterfly account.. seeing pics of my FC conjured up a few memories.. mostly of the days when we used to cruise the street races in Rowland Heights, Compton, Ontario, San Diego, and Sylmar.. street racing has been in the news lately, usually because it caused some kind of horrific car accident.. but back in the day, it wasn’t like that.. strangely, people back then had more common sense than a baseball and wouldn’t do anything stupid.. but like anything else in life, you put enough people together in one area and you’re bound to get a few common senseless baseballs making u-turns in the middle of the street in front of two cars.. or guys racing down the street with no headlights on because they thought that decreasing “drag” on the alternator would magically pick up 5/10ths in the “quarter mile”.. anyway.. I’ll save that discussion for another day.. my main purpose of writing today was just to show my loyal reader(s) that my RX7 did in fact run at one time..

Here was a picture taken with some POS point and shoot film camera.. in the background, you can see the original Dynamic Autosports shop.. you can’t see it in the picture, but just behind the car, there were two of the crappiest couches you ever saw.. but I probably spent half my college days sitting in those couches.. watching cars drive by and chasing the roach coach for a tuna melt.. there’s also a Street Fighter arcade game back there somewhere.. those were the days.. 😆

The car is sitting on 17×8 Work wheels.. forgot the model.. but they weren’t my wheels.. they were De’s wheels from his 91 MR2 Turbo.. he had crashed it trying to show off his road racing skills in the Irvine Auto Center when he spun and smacked a car in front of the Chevrolet dealership :mrgreen: .. at its prime, my RX7 had a 2.5″ downpipe connected to an HKS large diameter exhaust system.. fuel was “controlled” (and I use that term loosely) by an HKS PFC F-CON with the HKS FCD (Fuel Cut Defenser). I have a Centerforce clutch, Tokico (blue non-adjustable) shocks in the front, HKS EVC I (Electronic Valve Controller, version 1, which was way better than version 2 or 3), HKS SBC (Scramble Boost Controller), a Momo steering wheel and Momo shift knob.. for sounds, I had two Rockford Fosgate 8″ subs in a box, Boston Acoustic separates up front, BA coaxs in the back, a Kenwood headunit and EQ with 10 disc changer, all driven by an ADS PQ10 and some amp that I can’t remember now for the subs.. yeah, thats all I can remember right now..

I have pics of the car I bought as a daily driver after voluntarily disassembling my RX7.. I’ll save those for another post later..

Peak Performance Nissan 240SX S14

This week, I had some spare time so I was hanging out at Dynamic Autosports and watched as the guys wrenched on the Peak Performance 240SX S14 in preparation for D1GP at Irwindale on March 4th.. the car started up Tuesday night.. but it wasnt until Wednesday night until they started tuning.. unfortunately, I had to get up to go to work on Thursday, so I couldn’t stay for the show.. but I managed to snap a few pics before I left.. the guys from XS Engineering were there prepping their Nissan Skyline R32 GTR for Modified Magazine’s Time Attack at California Speedway on March 5th so I got a few of them “in action”..

Dynamic Autosports took the Peak Performance Nissan 240SX S14 down to Irwindale today for some test laps and tech inspection.. Robbie Nishida of Falken will be driving the car this season, so it was his first time behind the wheel.. I heard he was pleasantly surprised with the car.. I heard he kept repeating, “this car is amazing.. this car is amazing..”.. I guess he really liked the 2.4 liter SR20 with the HKS sequential trannie..

Here are a few pics.. unfortunately bandwidth doesnt grow on trees, so I resized the images and saved them at 30% quality.. most of the pics were shot at ISO1600 or 3200.. cleaned up with Noise Ninja 2, sharpened (USM) with Photoshop CS2..
